R.I.P. Engineer Jeff Poe

‘Undercover, AustraliaBy Paul CashmereJeff Poe, engineer and mixer for the new Elan album ‘London Express’ as well as working on records by Santana, Madonna and Guns ‘n’ Roses, has passed away after suffering a massive stroke on June 23rd.The 47 year old California based engineer was the first engineer to win a Grammy for Santana’s ‘Supernatural’.Records he has produced, engineered and mixed have sold more than 120 million units.The list of artists Poe has worked with include Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Kiss, Nelly Furtado, John Cougar Mellencamp, Brian McKnight and Ricky Martin.On of his most recent collaborations was Elan’s ‘London Express’. Elan and Jan Carlo DeFan have released the following statement to Undercover. “Our dear friend and close collaborator Jeff Poe past away yesterday morning from complications resulting from a massive stroke he suffered on June 23rd. of this year. His wife Karna was at his side when he passed”.“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his loving wife Karna, his mother Gloria, his two daughters, son in law, grandson as well as the rest of the Poe family”.They state that Jeff was “a graduate of Berklee College of Music, Jeff made the Deans List and was an exceptionally gifted arranger and composer. Many records that you have in your collection were tailored by him. They sound the way they do in no small part because of him”.Poe was nicknamed The Pirate by the DeFan family. “He was one of the finest talents we had the pleasure of working with”, they say. “We have never put out a record without him. He was much more than our artistic partner. Elan called him her “muse”. He was one of the greatest friends that we could have ever hoped to have. He was and forever will be a member of our family”.Jeff is survived by his wife Karna, his mother Gloria, his two daughters, son-in-law and grandson.’
